The Industrial Revolution Continues

On the 24th April 2013,Rana Plaza collapsed in Bangladesh.

Over 1100 people died.  Many more were injured.

Amidst the tragedy there was the miraculous rescue of one woman, Reshma Begum, who was pulled from the devestation 17 days after the building collapsed.

The building collapse and this industrial tragedy isn't a new story.  It is one that has been repeated time and again as the economies of the world have grown, industry has developed and people have moved from agricultural work into production.

There are relatively few lessons that we haven't already experienced.  I'm not so sure that we have learnt from the experiences...

Reading this article from Jason Burke in the Guardian, I really wonder if much has changed.

We have stories of devestated families, financial and familial tragedy, allegations of corruption and profit-driven threats and at the heart of the story another building that fundamentally wasn't safe, occupied by people wanting to do an honest days work to better their lives.

In many industries we see an increased focus on behaviour, leadership and systems.  All of these would have made the Rana Plaza tragedy less likely.  But what was really needed was a safe building.  And that is a lesson that was learnt as soon as people started to build.

After many years, four different companies and so called “consultants” Andy is a breath of fresh air, he doesn’t drown us in unnecessary generic paperwork, he uses his years of experience in all different fields to assess our needs he provides workable and above all understandable policies and documentation specific to our business.
